What is Unityaid?
Unityaid is a global community that empowers individuals and businesses to be a force for social good by supporting or seeking support for individual causes – even if it’s their own. Businesses and individuals can enhance their social standing by using their products and services to facilitate campaigns that change lives, while consumers are inspired to make a positive impact through their everyday purchase choices.
How does Unityaid work?
Each campaign is created and crafted independently by the business or person behind it. Campaigners have complete control and are responsible for creating and publicising their own campaigns. They spend time creating their campaigns, shooting their videos, determining their funding goals, and brainstorming what rewards to offer contributors. When they're ready, campaigners launch their campaigns and share it with their communities. If people are inspired and like the campaign, they can contribute or claim an offered reward in exchange for their contribution.
Who can use Unityaid?
For Partner Campaigns: a brand, celebrity, local business, media, online market place, professional, public figure, retailer or non-profit organisation that is raising funds for another person or group. Offering rewards to your contributors is mandatory; if you don’t have rewards to offer contributors you can choose the Non Partner Campaign, where offering rewards are optional.
Can I use Unityaid on mobile devices?
Yes. Every aspect of Unityaid has been carefully designed and crafted for mobile devices. If you’re a contributor, you can make a contribution or claim a reward seamlessly on any mobile device. If you’re a campaigner you can do everything right down to monitoring the financial statistics of your campaign and managing rewards through your campaign management interface. Unityaid is fully adaptable to any device. Anywhere. Anytime.
What are the benefits of launching a campaign?
An act of social good draws companies and individuals into the community. It improves engagement and brings tremendous rewards for a business or individual. It’s good for your brand and it presents the opportunity to interact with fans, followers, customers and potential customers, while having a positive impact on the community. Social good captures the attention of media outlets, and of social media users around the globe. When you make the decision to do social good, it can have a seismic impact on your organisation – there’s no better way to earn the trust and admiration of people, invigorate your workforce, and change lives for the better.
Give without any expectation of return and you tend to receive, often even greater in value from unexpected sources. When a business or individual becomes a genuine force for good, it’s a win-win situation for all involved. Unityaid provides you the opportunity to do something that matters.
What can I raise funds for?
The possibilities are endless. Most people raise funds for what matters to them - which means that the campaigners can be raising funds for themselves or to support another person, group, business, organisation, non-profit or a foundation they’re passionate about. You may need funding for a project that would benefit you, or to change the life of an individual. You may want to support education, fight hunger, help a family that has fallen victim to floods or fund a business you know is making a difference. If you’re raising funds to support someone else, please make sure to get consent of the person for whom you are raising funds for prior to launching your campaign.

You can nominate a percentage of each reward that is to be contributed to the person or group you are raising funds for. Offering rewards to contributors is mandatory for this type of campaign - If you don't have rewards to offer, you can choose the Non Partner Campaign.
For Non Partner Campaigns we retain a 5% fee if you reach your goal or a 10% fee if you don't. Offering rewards to your contributors is optional under a Non Partner Campaign.
Do I get to keep the funds I raise if I don't reach my funding goal?
Yes. Payments by your contributors are transacted to you instantly. You keep all the funds you manage to raise by your selected date, even if you don't achieve your goal.
Apart from the joy of reaching your goal, Unityaid will automatically release 50% of our fees to your campaign upon completion. We like to contribute too.
Are there any other fees I need to know about?
Unityaid has partnered with Stripe to provide your campaign the easiest way to accept credit and debit cards on the web. See more information in our Stripe section.
Where do contributors come from?
The majority of funding initially comes from the fans and friends of each campaign; your own connections will be vital when it comes to spreading the word. While people visit Unityaid every day, your fans and friends can share your campaign with others online and offline. Promoting your campaign in the press, on blogs, and on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google+ will deliver more traffic to your campaign and increase contributions.
Which countries does Unityaid support?
You can accept payments from almost any credit and debit card, no matter where your contributor lives. In order to accept contributions, however, you or your business must be based in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom or the United States.
Can I accept contributions from contributors who are located in other countries?
Yes, you can accept any Visa, MasterCard and American Express card in the case of Australian, Canadian and European Stripe accounts. U.S. Stripe accounts can additionally accept JCB, Discover and Diners Club cards. See more information. The contribution charge is always going to be made in your campaign currency. Depending on card currency, currency conversion can happen on card bank side (additional fees may apply as well depending on card bank in case of currency conversion).
Does Unityaid return fees when a campaigner refunds a payment?
Yes. Unityaid automatically returns our fees when a refund is made from a campaigner through their Stripe account as long as the campaign is in progress status. If the campaign is completed, all contributions and campaign totals are finalised and Unityaid does not return fees on refunds.
Who is responsible for completing a campaign?
Unityaid does not develop, run or complete campaigns. Each campaign is the responsibility of the campaigner from beginning to end. Neither does Unityaid guarantee the success of any campaign. Whether a campaign succeeds will depend on a number of factors, including the presentation of the campaign and the perceived worthiness of the cause. Contributors ultimately decide the validity and worthiness of a campaign by whether they decide to fund it.
Can a campaign be edited after launching?
Yes, most content can be edited. You can edit the following content after launching: Your campaign image, your campaign video, your campaign blurb, your campaign description, your campaign category, your campaign location, and your rewards. You can add new rewards or edit those that have not yet been claimed.
Will my campaign be featured on the home page?
While your Unityaid campaign will be live and ready to accept contributions immediately after launch, your campaign must be manually approved by the Unityaid Team prior to appearing on the home page or in our public search directory. Generally this process will only take up to 24 hours.
Will my campaign show up in search results if my funding goal is not reached?
Unityaid doesn't have a browse area for campaigns that don’t reach their funding goals; however unsuccessfully funded campaigns are accessible through the profile pages of campaigners and contributors. When users click on a campaigner’s profile they can view the entire campaigners past campaigns - successfully and unsuccessfully funded.
In terms of external search (Google, Bing, etc.), Unityaid de-indexes campaigns if funding is unsuccessful. This means that unsuccessfully funded campaigns don't show up in those search results. De-indexing does not happen immediately and takes some time to be processed by search engines.
Can I cancel my Unityaid account?
If you are the owner of a campaign that has raised any funds, you cannot delete your Unityaid account. All Unityaid accounts that include campaigns that have raised any funds must be kept live to preserve transparency for your contributors.
What’s the secret to running a successful campaign?
Two vitally important factors are to build your community and following early, and to avoid words like "help me" or "fund me." They imply that you're asking someone to do you a favour rather than offering an experience they’re going to love. Learn more to running a successful campaign at Unityaid School.
Why do people contribute or claim a reward?
People feel inspired to make a difference! Many contributors may be supporting the campaign of a friend, relative, business, colleague or social media connection. Some will support a cause that’s being publicised by someone they admire. Some are inspired by the nature of the campaign or cause, while others may be motivated by the rewards offered by the campaigner.
Do contributors need to be a member of Unityaid to make a contribution or claim a reward?
No. Contributors can make a payment via direct credit and debit cards, and are not required to have a Unityaid account to contribute or claim a reward.
Do contributors need to leave Unityaid to make a contribution?
No. Contributors do not need to leave Unityaid to make a contribution or claim a reward. This is a secure 2048 bit SSL encrypted payment powered by Stripe. Additionally Unityaid does not store credit and debit card information.
What do contributors get in return?
Much more that you might expect! Most campaigners offer rewards for contributions, but knowing that your contribution can make a real difference is likely to be the best reward of all. It’s easy to feel powerless in the face of so many injustices in the World and do nothing – but a great campaign allows you to make a difference.
Are contributors charged any fees?
No. Campaigners are responsible for the payment of fees.
Why doesn’t the ‘amount raised’ tally increase by the amount I contribute?
When you make a contribution, the exact amount you contribute will be displayed in the ‘recent contributions’ thread, however, the ‘amount raised’ figure will only increase by the amount of your contribution, less the fees the campaigner will pay on that amount. That’s because we want to show an accurate tally of the funds raised. Including the fees would give an inaccurate total.
Can Unityaid refund money if a campaigner is unable to fulfill a reward?
No. Unityaid doesn't issue refunds as transactions are between contributors and campaigners directly. Campaigners receive all funds less fees. Campaigners have the ability to refund contributors through Stripe. You can reach out to a campaigner by sending a direct message - links are available on the campaign page or on the campaigners profile.
How do I know a campaigner is who they claim they are?
It’s up to you as a contributor to decide on the validity and worthiness of a campaign. Perhaps you know the campaigner, or you heard about the campaign from a trusted source. Maybe they have a first-person video. If you’re unsure, take steps to verify the information. Look for the campaigner’s profile section on the campaign page. Are they Facebook and Twitter connected? Do they provide links for further verification? The web is an invaluable resource for learning more about a business or person.
Campaigners do need to pass onsite validations. Tools are provided for the campaigner to verify their phone number and email address, and to connect and verify their social network profiles (both Facebook and Twitter are available). They can also add links that help to confirm who they are. Part of every campaigner's job is earning their contributors' trust, especially potential contributors who don't personally know them. Campaigners are also required to connect their Stripe account. Stripe has been certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider and has been audited by a PCI-certified author.
